Ruvara Marimba Studio

Learn to play the joyous, rhythmical marimba music of the Shona people of Zimbabwe!

Aside from learning to play marimba (wooden-key xylophones), students learn Shona and Ndbele songs and hosho (dried gourd shakers that accompany marimba). A portion of tuition is donated to assist Zimbabwean musicians and their families.

Fourth Corner Exchange members pay one half of tuition in Life Dollars; be sure to let me know if you're a member.

Nancy Steele fell in love with marimba music in 2001, and has been playing it ever since. Additionally, she’s taken numerous marimba, drumming, hosho, choral and mbira workshops with gifted Zimbabwean teachers and performers at the Zimbabwean Music Festival, Camp Tumbuka and Camp Ruzivo.
